BCMG will be running our next blended Creative Composing Lab 10am – 6pm on Sunday 13th March at CBSO Centre, Berkley Street, B1 2LF. Participants are welcome to join us at the CBSO Centre in person or remotely via Zoom. This is a fantastic FREE opportunity for any young musicians you may work with who would like to develop their composition skills and we’d like to extend the invitation to those also beyond Birmingham!
Creative Composing Lab is an exciting opportunity for young people aged 14-18 to compose guided by the expert knowledge of professional composer David Horne from Royal Northern College of Music and BCMG musicians. If you love creating music or you need ideas for your GCSE, BTEC or A-level composition, Creative Composing Lab is for you.
Places are FREE, but need to be booked in advance. A suggested donation of £12 per participant will ensure we can continue our workshop programme.
In BCMG’s Spring Creative Composing Lab, young people will take inspiration from Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire which will be performed by our NEXT musicians as part of our ‘Do We Need a New Compass?’ concert on Friday 17 March 2022. You will compose for an extended ensemble of flute, clarinet, piano, violin and cello. All music created on the day will be recorded by the BCMG musicians. A film of their performance will then be shared as part of an online concert.
Participants joining us remotely will need access to a Zoom-compatible device and ideally some form of notation software such as Sibelius, MuseScore (free) or Noteflight.
